New Ideas Chamber Orchestra NICO is a string ensemble known for their captivating and original performances. Playing highly attractive music of Gediminas Gelgotas by memory which successfuly mix classical and pop idioms with non-traditional string instrument techniques the NICO creates sublime, ethereal and energetic musical experience. For those who may think “new music” means something bare and out-of-reach, listening to and watching New Ideas Chamber Orchestra perform acclaimed new compositions of NICO founder and artistic director Gediminas Gelgotas will transform you into a sophisticated enthusiast. Their shows also often incorporate stunning transcriptions of most beloved classical works by Bach, Vivaldi and Mozart, as well as new music of other minimalists such as Reich, Riley, Glass, Tavener, Pärt, Vasks, Gjeilo.

NICO was established in 2006 by one of the most recognised young Baltic composers Gediminas Gelgotas. Celebrating XIVth concert season, acclaimed by audiences and music critics alike, the ensemble is rapidly capturing attention by making their first appearances at the World’s leading concert venues and festivals, including Leipzig Gewandhaus, St Martin-in-the-Fields and Roundhouse in London, Usedomer, Elverum and Vilnius music festivals.

NICO is also increasingly capturing attention of international press. Classic FM radio station with 5.5 million have presented NICO live from their studios, whilst BBC World Service named NICO „trully worth attention“ during a 10 minute special on Gelgotas and his ensemble. In the meantime, NICO concerts in France are regularly announced on Radio France.

Besides appearances across Europe, Asia and the United States, throughout latest concert seasons NICO have performed for His Holliness Dalai Lama and Pope Francis. Their latest recording session in 2018 took place at the prestigious Real World Studios in United Kingdom, with previous albums recorded at Paramount (Los Angeles), Metropolis (London), Peermusic Classical (Hamburg) studios and released by Peermusic Classical.
