The First Festival “Alexey Botvinov and His Friends” in Odessa
The Odessa Classics festival was subtitled “Alexey Botvinov and His Friends.” It took place with full houses and incredible enthusiasm from the Odessa audience, clearly marking a European perspective on creating a musical event. Pianist Alexey Botvinov was born in Odessa, studied at the Odessa Conservatory, trained in Moscow, and performs around the world.
His signature pieces include Rachmaninoff’s works and Bach’s Goldberg Variations. The latter, in his performance, became the basis for both a Zurich ballet’s eponymous show and the “Goldberg Variations: Reloaded” program with the famous Turkish percussionist Burhan Oçal (this program also reached the Svetlanov Hall of the Moscow House of Music).
Among other musical experiments by Botvinov is the performance of Mikhail Shishkin’s “The Notebook” with music by Scriabin and Rachmaninoff (which was seen by audiences in Odessa and Zurich)…
