«Despite COVID-19». 2020 festivals and arts events that took place despite the pandemic
The festival, which had been prepared for an entire year, was postponed from June to August due to quarantine restrictions, and some participants were unable to attend, but the artistic celebration still took place.
The founder of the festival, the world-renowned pianist Oleksiy Botvinov, “finally fulfilled his long-held dream – showcasing to the audience of the ODESSA CLASSICS festival an example of his collaboration with leading Swiss choreographer Heinz Spoerli.”
Botvinov and Spoerli, over more than twenty years of collaboration, have worked on over a hundred performances in more than 30 countries across Europe, Asia, North America, and South Africa.
Spoerli’s performances to Botvinov’s music have been running for over 20 years at the Zurich Opera, in theaters in Berlin and Strasbourg. And, as critics write, the masterpiece of 20th-century choreography – Spoerli’s ballet “Goldberg Variations” to Bach’s music – is performed at the Milan opera house “La Scala”…
